ABOUT
Dining at Westminster Village North / BHI
In the coming months there will be some changes within the dining programs at WVN. As with other BHI communities, we will be transitioning to a partnership with Morrison Living to provide culinary services.
The dining experience is an important part of life at Westminster Village North. For residents in all levels of living, mealtime is not simply for sustenance, it’s a time to socialize with neighbors and see favorite staff members. This experience should be enjoyable in not only independent living, but in all parts of our community.
It has become increasingly difficult for communities to maintain “in-house” dining programs. Many, BHI included, engage partners such as Morrison Living, to provide a level of expertise not easily or cost effectively duplicated in a single community. By working with Morrison, we have the guidance of culinary school trained chefs, nutritionists, registered dieticians and hospitality experts. Sourcing expertise, heightened purchasing power, and supply chain stability are just a few more benefits of partnering with Morrison.
A fresh approach to dining
Menu variety, venue options, attention to nutrition and, of course, delicious food are key to dining satisfaction. Meals are made from “scratch” using seasonal, local ingredients when possible. With a focus on health and wellness, menus include fresh, house made selections along with a variety of favorite regional foods. Personalized diets or special food preferences are crafted using delicious ingredients and creative recipes.
Good stewardship of the environment also plays a role in menu planning. Sustainable practices are used, and when available, sustainable meal options such as fresh, local proteins and produce are offered. Residents will enjoy many farm to table selections, particularly during the growing and harvest seasons.
For residents living in assisted living, memory care and the health and rehabilitation centers, there is an emphasis on improving the entire dining experience. Understanding that abilities may change with age, Morrison offers highly specialized programs which meet individual needs. These programs include:
- The Dignified Dining Program for Memory Care was created to enhance the dining experience for residents living with dementia. The program ensures that the environment, menu, dining room layout, and tabletop are designed for a comfortable, dignified and enjoyable experience at every meal.
- Thyme 2 Heal is a specialized program for individuals who are in the process of rehabilitation. Dieticians create a personalized nutrition plan for each person supporting their healing process.
- PUREe offers an improved dining experience for residents who have difficulty swallowing traditional food textures. Chef-prepared renditions of favorite foods provide more appealing, nutritious meals.
A final note…….
Transitions are often necessary, but not necessarily easy. There will be changes, but many parts of the dining program will remain the same. Most importantly, the people currently working in the dining department will have opportunities to work with our new partner. While some roles may be different, current employees will be retained if they wish.
As we move through the various stages of the transition, we hope you’ll find that the new dining selections and services meet with your approval. We ask for your understanding as we work to provide the very best dining experiences possible.
